The course agenda is as follows:

  • NDCAC Overview – .5 hours
    •  An overview of the NDCAC; mission, goals, training and programs.
  • Making Sense of Modern Communications in Investigations - 2 hours
    •  Provides students with an understanding of new communication services, applications, technologies, and how they impact law enforcement investigations. The session includes an overview of the challenges these services present as well as the capabilities available to law enforcement.
  •  Basic Preservation Techniques for Mobile Devices - 1 hour
    •  Gives the students the ability to identify mobile device digital evidence, associated media and to take precautions to preserve the evidence.
  • NDCAC Website- .5 hours
    • Provides students with an overview of the information available from the NDCAC based on topics, including upcoming training and technical concerns, relative to investigations involving communication technologies.
  • Technology Sharing Tools and Demos – .5 hours
    •  Demonstration of the free tools available to assist investigators in understanding and processing service communication/APP provider returns.
  • Investigative Scenario - 1.5 hours
    • Students will investigate a crime spree and using cell phone call detail records, identify suspects and link them to the crimes.
