4/3/13: OCRCFL Receives Prestigious International Accreditation

The Orange County RCFL has received International Program accreditation by the American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB). ASCLD/LAB's Executive Director, Ralph Keaton, presented a plaque to the Local Executive Board chairs, FBI Assistant Director in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Office, Bill L. Lewis, and Orange County District Attorney, Tony Rackauckas, at today's accreditation ceremony and press conference.

ASCLD LAB is the world's largest forensic science accrediting body. Accreditation demonstrates to OCRCFL customers and the general public that a laboratory meets or exceeds the rigorous standards established by the international scientific community. Currently, only 38 laboratories worldwide hold international accreditation in the digital and multimedia evidence-computer forensics discipline. Requirements are based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025-2005 standard and ASCLD/LAB supplemental requirements.

The OCRCFL becomes the 5th laboratory in the RCFL National Program to achieve international accreditation and the 13th to be accredited. OCRCFL Lab Director Jason Weiss praised the laboratory team and thanked OCRCFL Quality Manager Jim Watkins for his leadership during the accreditation process.

Members of the press and invited members of law enforcement received tours of the RCFL. In addition, the OCRCFL unveiled it Mobile Forensic Laboratory (M-LAB), one of the six deployed by the FBI nationwide. (Read FBI press release.)
