A Niagara County Sheriff's deputy has been appointed to a post at the FBI's Regional Computer Forensics Lab in Buffalo.

Deputies Christopher S. Page will work with the FBI to analyze computer hard drives and identify criminal activity, including child pornography, Sheriff James Voutour announced Monday.

Page joined the NCSD in 2001, and he has been assigned to the road patrol division. He holds an associate's degree in criminal justice and has extensive experience working with computers, Voutour said in a press release.

Voutour said the appointment will help all of Western New York combat criminal activity involving computers and the Internet.

The FBI's lab, located in the Erie County Public Safety building, is a joint venture involving FBI agents, New York State troopers, City of Buffalo police and other area law enforcement agencies.

Voutour said the U.S. Attorney's office and the U.S. Department of Justice helped the NCSD obtain a $500,000 grant to allow Page's appointment.

"This extremely sensitive and complex assignment requires a highly dedicated and committed officer to perform these tasks," Voutour said. "I believe that Deputy Page is fully qualified to perform this role and will be an asset to this very important problem."
